Create an inner shadow effect with Gimp
January 22nd
This effect is very easy to create and believe that results obtained from a sufficiently attractive, the program will work with Gimp, remember that it is free and available for almost all systems (Windows, Linux and MacOS). Following this guide to get a text that has a white shade above, as if bored.
Difficulty: Basic / easy. If you can click the right mouse button you can follow this tutorial.
Time Required: Less than 5 minutes. You will be 4 minutes thinking about the font you want to use.
Creation process;
- Create the image with the desired size: menu File -> New (CTRL + N)
- Color black and white text.
- Add text to a size considerably if we see the effect better with a font that is sufficiently thick, or with bold style.
- Duplicate the layer with the text.
- Create a new transparent layer (using the image size) over the duplicate text.
- Right on the transparent layer and choose Merge Down.
- Select the text with the color selection tool, and cut the selected part.
- Right click and select Menu -> invert (CTRL + I), fill the new selection with black (CTRL + O).
- Discard the selection, that is, remove all selections.
- Duplicate the layer with black text inverted.
- Select the original layer with the text upside down, right, filters -> blur / blur -> Gaussian
- Depending on the size of the text we can more or less value, the higher the gradient reaches farther.
- And we have our text with a perforated shade inside.
NOTE: Remember to save the file format *. xcf to maintain layers and properties of each element separately. You can then save a copy in the format that you feel (jpg, gif ...).
I created a video (screencast) with the entire process of creating this effect;

Where to find instructions?
January 15th

One thing that bothers me is wasting time looking for the instructions for a particular product. And needless to say still bothers me even more when the manufacturer offers through its official website, and not speak step-listed products from or import is something that should take care brands if they offer a better service after sale, and not avoid receiving some calls to the switchboard of their service departments. Have a small database from products that links to a download page with product information does not cost much, just keep it updated and do not delete the information, just file it.
Needless to say, that sometimes we ourselves who are causing the problem, beginning to make use of an article without reading the instructions, filing documents in place will certainly not meet again or even throwing it to the trash in order to contribute to the cause of recycling. We may also find that the product does not have all the information you need or the same format is not suitable for our needs.
Assume that we have sought information on the product's support page and find the information you want, it will be time to use Web search engines, but if you want to save a good bit of work you can start your adventure by Page Diplodocs , which will help in the difficult task of finding guide, instructions, manuals and guidelines for the use of many products, not just electronics and / or technology. There is absolutely everything, but if we can help if you need more than one occasion.
This page is available in many languages, including Catalan (with varying degrees of success), Spanish, English, French ... where you'll find instructions in many languages too, although the majority in English.
It also has a section that allows us to add new files and contribute to its archive.
Needless to say, lately all the instructions of electronics sold on CD in PDF format, from my point of view is a business success, reduce printing costs and provide flexibility in searching for information to your customers, as long as you have a computer able to read PDF documents. When you have a manual over 100 pages, the search function within PDF documents will be your ally!
Do you know an alternative?
